[Event] Tenma Boat Project Test Voyage (Scheduled for Nov. 22)
The “Tenma Boat Project”, which aims to cultivate a community around the waterways through a race featuring “mini Tenma boats”, will conduct its test voyage on November 22, 2024 (Friday)!
An art project to rediscover waterfront culture
The “Tenma Boat Project” is an art project that originally started with the aim of culturally preserving the wooden traditional boats that were used for fishing in Himi City, Toyama Prefecture, and passing on fishing boat techniques.
Now, the project has evolved into an initiative that involves the community to support activities that revitalize and purify waterfronts, contributing to the development of livelihoods and communities centered around the gradually declining water's edge. This time, it will be held in the waterfront areas of Chiba City as part of the “Chiba City Arts Triennale 2025”.
During the pre-event period of 2024, a “Tenma Boat Project Team” will be established, consisting of experts and individuals engaged in community activities centered around the waterfront. This team will conduct test sailings of the “Tenma boat” on rivers within Chiba City. The rivers will be selected for actual operation during the main event in 2025.
Programs will be created for each stage leading up to the implementation of events during the main event period, including flag attachment, transportation, and cleaning for the mini Tenma boat's reuse. Volunteers will be recruited to provide opportunities for residents to participate. The aim is to go beyond simply creating excitement for the event and to collaborate with the community to reflect on the “waterfront” environment, allowing residents to feel a sense of closeness to it and ensuring the space remains open to the community.
