TENMASEN Project 2025 / Hanami River
Artist
TENMASEN Project Team
The TENMASEN Project will hold an event in which many “miniature Tenma boats,” approximately 30 cm long and modeled after wooden Japanese-style boats, will be floated on the river and visitors can enjoy the boats sailing along with the current of the water.
[A cross-sectional initiative to explore waterfront culture and space from horizontally.]
Through this project, we aim to create a cross-sectoral network of old and new waterfront users in collaboration with artists, students, citizens, and businesses, beyond the fields of art, community development, and environmental revitalization.
[Re-establish a relationship with the waterfront in daily life.]
Not to limit a temporary event-like excitement, but to build a relationship that will lead to the use of the waterfront in daily life with the local community, against the backdrop of historical images.
[Community building through the use of spatial social stock.]
By reusing places and spaces that are imbued with local memories and time, we can pass on the local identity to future generations.
[A donation-based event format.]
Gathered funds will go toward revitalization and clean-up activities along the waterfront. Cherry trees will be planted along the Hanami River to create a more familiar waterfront. The goal is to increase the initiative and cooperation of citizens and to make this a sustainable event.
[As support for citizen-created cultural activities.]
Anyone can participate, regardless of their status, age, gender, or nationality. The entire race will express the diversity and solidarity of the participating citizens, and aims to become a citizen-created cultural activity. In addition, rivers are seen as a media for expression, and are promoted as a community art initiative for the world.
