Peeling the Skin
Artist
Riru MizuguchiIn the past, Chiba Station and the surrounding area were crowded with sex shops and family-run shops, and flourished with people’s workings. In recent years, the old sceneries and atmosphere are gradually changing due to the relocation of Chiba Station and the revival of urban development, and correspondingly the shapes of these memories are blurring.
This project picks up traces left in town amid such changes, records them and tries to reconstruct and exhibit as our own nest using the traces as materials.
We will visit shops, parks and sites of former stores and explore the signs of life accumulated at the place through the information surfaced on walls, shelves, unevenness of floors in town and the conversations with people who live there. We do not rely solely on memories and stories but feel the environment in our own body and construct a relationship with the town.
Acquired information and records will be reconstructed as three-dimensional structures and installations at the exhibition space.
As well as the process of observations and actions in town, videos and written records will be exhibited.
