On June 27, 2001, Chiba Monorail received a Guinness World Record for having the longest operating distance (15.2 km) of any suspended monorail in the world .
Officially, it is registered as “the longest suspended monorail train system in the world, at 15.2 km.” There are two types of monorails: suspended and straddle-type. With the extension in August 1995 (between Chiba and Chiba Minato), the operating distance was increased to 13.5 km, surpassing the monorail in Wuppertal, Germany (operating distance 13.3 km) to become the longest suspended monorail in the world.
