In Shi Yuxin’s creative experience, She has always liked to use games to establish her connection with others. Games are an indispensable and important part of artist’s life. She believes that human desire for games comes from primitive instinct, and it can always be a good bridge to build connections.
The artist once implemented the “city game” project in Chinese cities. This project aims to use “games” to establish new connections between people and people and buildings “nearby” in the public spaces, and temporarily create a new “game world” for the old city space. She strolled around the city, waiting for strangers to play chess with her, turning the streets into playground, and even holding a game for two trash cans.
This time in Chiba, Shi Yuxin also wants to integrate into the living space of nearby residents through field survey and mapping, track the daily trajectory of local residents, find the “creative possibilities” hidden in life based on the actual environment and her observations, and formulate corresponding game rules to re-empower the inherent space. This time, the artist intends to create a “Chiba City Game Week”, which will hold a small game in different places in the city every seven days a week. She hopes that local residents can also participate in the game in person and rediscover the possibility of nearby space in the game.
