September 11 (Thursday) - September 16 (Tuesday), 2025

“walkingpractice™” is an art project developed nationwide by artist Kazuhiko Hinoki, who is himself a wheelchair user. For this festival, it will be implemented in Chiba City as “walkingpractice™ code_bridge [spec_chiba]”. Together with participants, we will explore and demonstrate “accessibility (the potential for everyone to use it easily)”.

This time, we will actually install completed ramps. Join Kazuhiko Hiwa to consider together what kind of ramps should be installed where to create spaces accessible to everyone.

※Installation is scheduled for September 11th on the Chiba University campus and September 16th at various festival venues throughout Chiba City.

Photography and Video Recording

Photography and video recording will be conducted on the day for promotional and record-keeping purposes. Media outlets may also conduct interviews and filming. Photographs and videos taken may be published on the Chiba International Art Festival website, social media, brochures, and other promotional materials, as well as on television, magazines, and other media. We kindly ask for your understanding in advance.

In this Triennale, the artist visits Chiba City for the first time on a wheelchair which he uses daily. He will stay in the central area and start the project from research. He considers mobility and accessibility within Chiba through experience of his own and plans to hold workshops with participation of citizens. Outcomes of the research and project are planned to be exhibited at all times during the intensive exhibition and presentation period of the Triennale so that citizens can see them. It is expected that the participation of an artist on a wheelchair with the scheme “Triennale” would update the event itself. Kazuhiko Hiwa

Born in Osaka. Completed M.F.A at the Graduate School of Art, Kyoto University of the Arts. He creates video works and performances exploring themes of physicality. His ”HIWADROME” series, an installation work, uses wheelchairs as a material which are also used for his own mobility, and serves as a foundational line of his practice. Through traveling, workshops and architectural interventions, he examines and proposes new perspectives on mobility and accessibility in his project “walkingpractice™.” He also develops “DRAWING EXPERIMENT,” created mainly with painting, “TRAIL by walkingpractice™,” a road-surface recording project using a wheelchair weaving machine and noise sound gigs featuring the “electric wheelchair sound generator.” Latest exhibitions: “Absolute Chairs“ (The Museum of Modern Art, Saitama, Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art, Aichi, 2024), “MICUSRAT – MUSIC LOVES ART” (Nakanoshima Festival Tower, Osaka, 2024), “Welcome Back Yokohama” (Yokohama Museum of Art, Kanagawa, 2025), “Study: Osaka Kansai International Arts Festival” (EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai at Maishima, Osaka, 2025)
