GAYU-Temple under the bridge railway track / Toshimitsu Ito
“Praying at the temple under the bridge railway track”Making wind chimes and dedicating them to the gods workshop
August 11, 2025
Art project「GAYU-Temple under the bridge railway track」This project involves the collaborative efforts of artists and local residents to build a new shrine under the railway overpass next to Nishi-Chiba Station. The main deity of the shrine will be a massive reclining goddess statue crafted from recycled materials such as scrap wood from local homes and furniture that have supported the community’s daily life. The goddess statue will be adorned with numerous wind chimes, which will resonate with the sounds of passing trains and the bustling station area, creating a soothing melody that echoes through the overpass space.
In this workshop, participants will create the short strips that will form part of the wind chimes.
Participants will draw scenes from daily life—such as “work,” “family,” “school,” “walking,” or “weekends”—on paper, then cut them out using a laser cutter and attach them to the wind chimes.
